ANCHEER electric bike 250W/500W

ANCHEER e-bike review

The ANCHEER electric bike comes from the Chinese born company specialising in health and fitness products. Its two main markets are the USA and Europe and it currently has warehouses in Germany and California.

We’re looking at ANCHEER’s electric bike with a 250 W or 500 W motor. It’s one of the company’s more recent and popular products. Though this e-bike is advertised as an electric mountain bike, we consider it somewhat of a hybrid - placing it between a road bike and a mountain bike.

But that’s not important. What is important is its price, quality and durability. The 250 W model costs around $600 USD (£435 / 500€), which is cheap for a bike, especially an electric one. And it’s not bad quality either. It’s sturdy, fast and has 3 pedal assist modes as well as a no-pedal, throttle mode.

Let’s dive into the specifics.

Design

The ANCHEER electric bike weighs 23 kg (50 lb) so it’s a little lighter than your average e-bike. Like its manufacturer, its components are from China. This is both good and bad. The components are not from the top shelf, but they are readily available. So finding replacement parts is not difficult or expensive if anything breaks or becomes worn.

Having said this, the ANCHEER e-bike isn’t bad quality considering its price. The frame, handlebars and wheels are made from aluminium alloy making them both light-weight and durable.

Though it looks like an electric mountain bike, in reality it’s closer to an electric road bike. With 66 cm (26”) / 70 cm (27.5") tyres it does lend itself to off-road adventures, but we don’t recommend it for avid mountaineers. This e-bike won’t be able to handle the pressure of such intense use.

Speed, Distance, and Battery

For an affordable e-bike it has a decent range and max speed, 25 km (15 miles) and 25 kph (15 mph), respectively [36 km (22 miles) and 35 kph (22 mph) for the 500 W model]. For any ‘A to B commuter’ this is more than sufficient.

The giant battery on the ANCHEER e-bike is not very pretty. It sits on the frame in the classic drink bottle position and looks like you’re carrying a giant thermos. Although we find it big and ugly, it’s not half bad. It’s a 36V 8Ah / 40V 10Ah Lithium ion battery, so it’s light and provides a good amount of power to the 250 W / 500 W motor. Other benefits include it being removable, replaceable and fully charged in 4-6 hours.

The battery status can be found on the display on the left side of the handlebar. It’s represented by 5 LED lights. The more lights lit up, the more battery you have.

The Brake System

The mechanical disc brakes on each tyre far exceed traditional V-brakes. The bike can handle sharp turns and precise stops smoothly. But keep in mind that the ANCHEER electric bike is a budget electric bike, so the brakes may squeak or have other minor issues. But they won’t fail on you.

Certification and Safety

This ANCHEER e-bike has an IPX4 rating, which means it’s resistant to water splashes and its electrical components are protected from dirt and dust.

Also, you will be visible any time of the day. The e-bike comes with an LED headlight and reflector strips. And if you really want to get people’s attention, there’s a horn mounted on the handlebars.

With all electric rideables we recommend riders wear helmets and take other appropriate safety precautions, including using lights and/or reflectors.

Riding Experience

The ANCHEER electric bike is a smooth ride. Its 66 cm (26”) / 70 cm (27.5") tyres mean the rider is comfortable on any street surface. Add to this the shock absorption on the front fork, and suddenly rider comfort extends to off-road surfaces as well.

As we’ve already stated, it’s not quite at the level of electric mountain bike, but it’s certainly more than a simple electric road bike. ANCHEER claims that the motor can handle up to 15-degree inclines by itself. Of course with the rider’s help, it can climb steeper slopes.

3-5 pedal assist levels

LOW, MID, HIGH variations give the rider some choice as to how much help they want from the motor. LOW means your legs are doing most of the work, HIGH means the motor is, and the MID levels fall somewhere in between. On top of this, the throttle power - activated from the handlebar - means the motor is providing all the power.

The pedal-assist controls aren’t easy to reach without taking your left hand off the handlebar. Each pedal assist mode has an LED light on the display to show which, if any, is activated.

Don’t forget. You can always deactivate all power modes and generate the power yourself. Riding without pedal assist is made easier by the 21 gear speed system on the e-bike.

Final Thoughts

The ANCHEER electric bike is a decent e-bike considering its price. It performs well on various terrains and its 3-5 pedal assist modes suit almost all situations. It’s top of the line in its price range for an electric mountain bike/electric road bike.

All things considered we give this ANCHEER electric bike 250 W / 500 W gets 8/10 from us.

We must stress that for its price, the ANCHEER electric bike is a good deal and you won’t be disappointed. But if you are looking for a top-of-the-line, high quality electric mountain bike, we suggest you look elsewhere.
