Xiaomi Mi electric scooter

Xiaomi Mi on Amazon

Stylish, sturdy, smart, and practical; these words succulently describe the Xiaomi Mi Electric Scooter. Its matte textured look is modern and stylish and even earned Xiaomi Mi the Red Dot and iF Design Award. The heavy-duty aircraft-grade aluminium alloy makes this e-scooter lightweight yet sturdy; serving your needs for years.

Weighing around 12.2 kg (26.9 lb), the Xiaomi electric scooter can be lifted and carried in one hand. The lightweight electric scooter runs on a powerful and fast-charging lithium-ion battery that gives a maximum range of 30 km (18.6 miles). The 250-watt motor offers a top speed of 25 kph (15.5 mph). The absence of suspension has no impact on the smooth ride, thanks to the shock absorption capacity of pneumatic tyres.

The disc brake and the eABS regenerative anti-lock brake handle the bumps remarkably well.

The Xiaomi Mi has the added bonus of an app, through which you can track battery status, speed, and other scooter stats.

  • Pros
  • Ultra-modern, award-winning design and appearance
  • Powerful motor and fast-charging battery
  • Dual brake system and high-power front light
  • Bluetooth app

Why do we like the Xiaomi Mi?

The Xiaomi Mi is a well-made scooter. It's reliable, aesthetically beautiful, and fast. No wonder one of the most popular scooters on the market! Xiaomi maintains a high standard of safety and quality in its products, and the Mi scooter is no exception. The Xiaomi Mi richly deserves the top-rank among the best on-road electric scooters 2024.

Macwheel on Amazon

The Macwheel Electric Scooter is built for the streets. It’s minimalist design and 3-step folding system adds to its allure. Aesthetically, it's what you would expect from any modern electric scooter; it's slim, sleek, and portable.

Macwheel’s compact design plus the 350-watt motor and long battery life help you zig-zag through traffic. Its max distance of 30 km (18.6 miles) and top speed of 25 kph (15.6 mph) make the commute much shorter and travelling further much easier.

Forget about tyre pressure or punchers - the tyres in Macwheel are non-pneumatic, with foam on the inside and rubber on the outside. In addition, the tyres have internal steel wire for added strength. The large 21.5 cm (8.5”) tyres offer excellent shock absorption and require very little maintenance. The brake system and lights (front and rear) guarantee a safe ride, even in low-light conditions.

  • Pros
  • 350-watt motor and fast charging, long-life battery
  • Large tyres with steel wire protection
  • Dual brake system and bright lights
  • High-quality design

Why do we like the Macwheel Electric Scooter?

When not in use, the Macwheel is very portable - so don't worry if you taking it away with you or you encounter stairs on your ride. It folds down nicely.

We love the air-less tyres that are solid while providing suspension - a difficult feature to get right. This saves on general scooter maintenance.

Segway Ninebot ES4

8.8/10

Segway Ninebot electric scooter

Segway Ninebot on Amazon

The Segway Ninebot ES4 is another impressive piece of tech. Segway has been in the personal electric transport field for a long time, and its experience is shown yet again through this e-scooter.

Instead of being a short distance commuter, the Segway Ninebot ES4 is built for long-distance travel, with dual batteries and a 800-watt (peak output) motor ensuring an uninterrupted ride of 45 km (28 miles) at a top speed of 30 kph (19 mph).

It's a comfortable scooter to ride, both in terms of physical comfort and added convenience. Segway has put an LED screen in the middle of the handlebar to display all the real-time scooter performance statistics. As well as the screen, there is a Ninebot ES4 app for tablets and smartphones.

Any negatives?

We think the tyres are substandard. This leads to average shock absorption, thus average performance on unpaved roads.

  • Pros
  • Fastest speed and furthest range
  • High-quality parts, sleek design
  • Powerful lighting and brake system
  • Safe and reliable

Why do we like the Segway Ninebot ES4?

It's one of the faster scooters we've seen with the furthest range. Like other Segway products, it is made of top quality tech. Our only grievance is the tyres, but if you're buying it to ride on paved roads it won't be a problem.

Gotrax GXL V2

8.7/10

gotrax gxl v2

Gotrax on Amazon

The Gotrax GXL V2 electric scooter is the upgrade of the original GXL. It's only marginally more expensive than its predecessor and it's noticeably better.

The 250 W motor and fast charging battery offer a max range of 20 km (12.5 miles). The top speed of the GXL V2 is fairly standard - 25 kph (15.5 mph).

The LED display is a nice addition so you can easily see the scooter's status while you're riding. Also, the disk brake on the back tyre makes for smooth and simple stops and uses regenerative braking to save energy consumption.

Any negatives?

No major negatives to mention. We would like to see a Gotrax app for smartphones.

  • Pros
  • Simple, modern design
  • Good range per charge
  • Regenerative braking
  • Good on uneven surfaces
  • Affordable price
  • LED display

Why do we like the GXL V2?

The GXL V2 e-scooter performs well on both paved and unpaved roads. On flat surfaces, its riding experience, speed, and range are comparable to Segway Ninebot ES4 and Xiaomi Mi electric scooters.

We like that they've gone above and beyond with the regenerating, disc brake system - a noticeable improvement from the original GXL.

Glion dolly foldable electric scooter

Glion Dolly on Amazon

The Glion Dolly is made specifically with the modern, city commuter in mind. It's made well, compact for easy storage, and easy to move around when not in use.

The 250-watt brushless hub motor (standard with most electric scooters) with fast charging LG lithium-ion battery gives a ride time of 60-70 minutes, at a maximum speed of 24 kph (15 mph) - fairly standard top speed.

The electric scooter has a load capacity of 115 kg (255 lb), allowing Glion Dolly to effortlessly carry riders of most shapes and sizes. As well as this, the scooter is extremely portable when not in use. Like many other scooters it folds down, but unlike other scooters, it has two roller wheels allowing it to be towed.

Each component and feature in Glion Dolly is built to last. The aircraft-grade aluminium with a corrosion-resistant powder-coated body, long-lasting honeycomb tyres, and anti-lock electronic brake will serve your needs for more than a decade.

Any negatives?

As it's made for city riding on smooth roads or pavements, the scooter doesn't handle rough surfaces well. Also, if you're looking for a Bluetooth app to connect to the scooter to see up-to-date stats, look elsewhere.

  • Pros
  • Compact, foldable, portable
  • Corrosion-resistant, powder-coated aluminium body
  • 250-watt brushless hub motor (600-watt peak output)
  • Decent range and speed

Why do we like the Glion Dolly?

It's the scooter for the commuter. Its ability to fold and be towed along is a huge plus, and not seen in other scooters. Whether you take it on the metro for those longer commutes, or you encounter stairs on your journey, you won't have any trouble moving the Glion Dolly around.

We also like its solid frame that stands up against the elements. It's strong, sturdy, and will last the test of time.

Razor electric e200 scooter

Razor on Amazon

Razor Electric Scooters (specifically the E90, E100, and E200 models) are designed for kids and teenagers, but our experience shows that these e-scooters can withstand the weight of hefty adults as well.

The key feature of these Razor electric scooters is the large tyres that perform exceedingly well on light gravel and paved roads. The battery (or batteries) offer a ride time between 40-80 minutes.

The lead-acid battery (E90 has one; E100 and E200 have two) takes longer to charge than other scooter batteries - about 8-12 hours. While this is one of the drawbacks of the Razor scooters, it's not a big deal leaving the battery to charge overnight.

The scooters' top speed varies between 16-19.3 kph (10-12 mph), with a maximum range of 8-21 km (5-13 miles). The E200 has large 20.3 cm (8”) pneumatic tyres that adapt well to different surfaces much better than the mixed pneumatic-urethane tyres in E100 or urethane-TPU tyres in the E90.

Any negatives?

As previously mentioned, the 8-12 hour charge time for the batteries is less than ideal. It's significantly longer than other scooter batteries. This results in a small max-ride-time of 40-80 minutes.

  • Pros
  • Lightweight, sturdy, and easy to ride
  • Affordable and spare parts are widely available
  • Silent motor and smooth riding on paved roads
  • Impressive ride time for the power output

Why do we like the Razor Electric Scooters?

For kids these are great scooters. You have 3 options to choose from depending on the power you're looking for. They are safe and easy to learn how to ride. And they're not so fast so that you have to worry about children falling off and getting seriously hurt. Of course, we do encourage all scooter riders to wear protective gear just in case.
